Chipotle is known for its customizable menu selections, and diners can now access yet another protein. The fast-casual Mexican chain will serve the fan-favorite Carne Asada for a limited time.
The returning steak item, available at restaurants across the United States and Canada, is marinated before being seasoned on the grill with spices such as cumin, coriander, and oregano. The dish is finished with freshly squeezed lime and hand-chopped cilantro. The menu item is Whole30 compliant and keto and paleo friendly.
Carne Asada made its debut at Chipotle in September 2019, and it was a triumph. According to a news release, the company claimed that more than 10 million people ordered the item after its first release and that nearly half of those consumers were first-time visitors. The protein made a comeback in restaurants in 2020, becoming one of Chipotle’s “most requested menu items on social media,” according to the business.
Chipotle is providing the Carne Asada in its customizable quesadilla and Fajita Quesadilla for anyone looking to branch out from their normal bowl or burrito order. Both are prepared with Monterey Jack cheese and come with three sides: black beans, cilantro lime rice, and sour cream.
“Over the past few years, our fans’ passion for Carne Asada has rivaled any other Chipotle menu item,” Chipotle’s chief brand officer, Chris Brandt, said in a news release. “We’ve answered the call, brought back this iconic protein, and introduced an entirely new way to try Carne Asada with the Carne Asada Quesadilla.”
Customers can make this menu item a Fajita Quesadilla by ordering their quesadilla with fajita veggies. The Fajita Quesadilla was introduced by Chipotle in March after the ingredient combination went viral on TikTok.
The Fajita Quesadilla, according to the company, “nearly doubled Chipotle’s quesadilla business at launch and resulted in two of the brand’s top digital sales days of all time.”
Quesadillas and Fajita Quesadillas can only be ordered through the Chipotle app, website, or third-party delivery platforms.
In celebration of the iconic steak’s return, Chipotle is offering free delivery on all Carne Asada orders placed on its app and website between September 14 and October 1, 2023.
Carne Asada isn’t the only protein choice added to Chipotle’s menu this year. The business launched its Chicken Al Pastor in the United States, Canada, and Europe in March. This limited-time menu item included Adobo, morita peppers, ground achiote, pineapple, and lime.
